CUMMINS CONTINUES IN COMMAND AT TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY

Haubstadt, IN – July 27, 2019 –  Saturday night’s Indiana Sprint Week Finale at Tri-State Speedway quickly turned into a dual between two local drivers.  The 30 lap A Main was a speed fest with Stephen Schnapf of Newburgh setting a blistering pace out front while Kye Cummins of Princeton took up the chase after starting fifth.  Schnapf started on the outside pole and led until the 27th lap.  Cummins passed him as the two negotiated the first turn.  Cummins continued in the lead to win the event.  His margin of victory was 1.6 seconds over Schnapf.

Cummins was at the wheel of the Hank Byram owned Rock Steady Sprinter wrenched by Tim Spindler.  Cummins described the contest with Schnapf as unbelievable.  Schnapf picked his way through lapped traffic. Cummins noted that the lapped traffic was where he needed to run to catch Schnapf.  But he found the opportunity and had the car to complete the pass.  It was Cummins fourth sprint car win in four attempts at Tri-State Speedway this season.  He remains undefeated while racing in feature events at Haubstadt in 2019.  It was also his second win this season during Indiana Sprint Week.

Justin Grant would finish third.  He was also the overall fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.539 seconds. Chase Stockon settled for fourth place after holding second spot for the first ten laps.  Brady Bacon was fifth and set the mark to become the Hard Charger after starting 15th in the 24 car field.

C. J. Leary had the seat of honor as the 2019 Indiana Sprint Week Champion.  He was center stage during post-race ceremonies in the promised Bridgeport rocking chair.  Leary was consistent all week in compiling top-ten finishes.  Leary finished 10th at the finale to add to his other top finishes including 2 seconds, 3 thirds, a fourth, and a sixth.  Leary drives for Reinbold/Underwood Racing based in Arizona.

Other top ten feature finishers included Jarett Andretti in sixth followed by Brody Roa, Kendall Ruble, and Jason McDougal.  Josh Hodges won the 12 lap Semi feature.  Donny Brackett took the last transfer spot in finishing sixth in the Semi.  He had won the C Main minutes earlier to earn a 15th starting spot in that Semi.

The four preliminary USAC heat races were won by Justin Grant, Stephen Schnapf, Tyler Courtney, and Chayse Hayhurst.

Brandon McDowell won the UMP Open Wheel Modified feature.  It was his second feature victory in a row at Tri-State Speedway this season. The first-place check was worth a thousand dollars.  Mc Dowell was the most fortunate of the race leaders.  Dustin Beck led the first four laps before losing the lead to Stan Beadles.  Beadles could not avoid a spinning car about to be lapped and had to retire to the infield with front-end damage.  Beck reassumed the lead but it was short-lived as his car was damaged in a collision between turns one and two.  McDowell was in control of the race.

Tyler Weiss overtook Everett Bradham to earn the runner-up honors. The checkered flag was quickly replaced with the yellow as cars crashed in the fourth turn on the final lap.  Zach Fair and Don Brantley rounded out the top five.  Brantley also won the first heat after setting fast time.  Dustin Beck and Stan Beadles took the other two heat races.
The next event at Tri-State Speedway will be the Hoosier Sprint Nationals on August 10th.  The feature for MSCS Sprints pays $5,000 to win.  The winged 305 Race Saver Sprints and UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be on the program.

26 of the fastest Brandeis MSCS 410 sprint cars in the country signed in to the Tri-State Speedway for The Hoosier Sprint Nationals. MSCS three groups of qualifying sessions and the first group would show just how fast the track was going to be. Bryan Karraker set the quick time in group one followed by Dustin Christie, Brady Short, and Collin Ambrose. Group two had Stephen Schnapf setting quick time with Josh Hodges, Chase Stockon, and Isaac Chapple your top four. Your final group proved to be the fastest group of the night in qualifying with Kendall Ruble setting a blistering time of 13.509 (the only car in the 13 second bracket) and setting quick time by more than one half second. Kyle Cummins, Donny Brackett, and Jarrett Andretti round out the top four. Your heat races would be set by inverting the top four in each group.

Heat one would put Owensboro Kentucky native Collin Ambrose on the pole alongside the “Bedford Blaster” Brady Short. Ambrose would lead lap one, the red flag would fly on lap two for the number 75 of Dustin Christie who would bang wheels with Bryan Karraker causing him to slide up the track and into the outside turn three wall, flipping his car onto its lid. Dustin Christie would walk away from the incident unscathed. When the green flag came back out it was all Collin Ambrose for the remainder of the race. Aric Gentry would make his way from his fifth starting position to finish second with Brian Karraker, Brady Short, and Dakota Jackson rounding out the top five and advancing them directly into the A-main event.

Heat two placed New Castle Indiana’s Isaac Chapple against a local racer from nearby Ft. Branch Indiana “Showtime” Chase Stockon side by side. Stockon jumped out quick, fast, and in a hurry and never looked back. Ten green flag laps later we saw Stockon win with Josh Hodges, Stephen Schnapf, Isaac Chappel, and Critter Malone all advancing to the main event.

Jarret Andretti, out of Mooresville North Carolina staged the field for heat number three. It wouldn’t take long for the Hometown Hero to jump from third to the lead exiting turn two. Lap one coming off of turn four was a problem for Jarret Andretti as he made contact with another car sending him spinning into the infield and causing the only caution of heat race number three. Kyle Cummins would set sail and would win the ten lap heat race. Kendall Ruble, Donny Brackett, Kent Schmidt, and Brandon Morin would complete the final top five that are locked into tonight’s $5,000 to win Hoosier Sprint Nationals!

Tonight’s twelve lap B-main would be the final chance for eleven drivers to punch their ticket into the Hoosier Sprint Nationals. Chayse Hayhurst lined up side by side with Brandon Mattox on the front row, ready to see the green flag drop. The initial start was waived off by flagman Keith Dewig due to a quick start by one of the drivers. A quick reset and we would try it again. The 7R of Ryan Bond would loop it in turn one, on lap one, causing us to try again with the start of the B-main. The third restart proved to be the charm as we would see green flag laps until lap five, when Max Adam’s would spin in turn one, causing a yellow. When we went back to green it was all Hayhurst, followed by Jarrett Andretti, JJ Hughes, Brandon Mattox, and coming back to claim the final transfer spot was Max Adam’s. This set the 20 car field for the $5,000 to win Hoosier Sprint Nationals.

When the green flag dropped it took no time for Cummins to make his way to the point, leading lap one. Cummins and Chase Stockon would battle back and forth in the opening laps each leading at the line before Cummins would take over the lead by himself and catching the back of the field. On lap 12 Donny Brackett found himself in a mess and upside down in turn four, ending his night. With 18 to go, the single-file restart would give clear track for your leader Kyle Cummins. The yellow would fly again as the 76 of JJ Highes, Aric Gentry, and Brandon Morin would get tangled up, in turn 2 on lap 16, ending the night for all three. On lap 19 the yellow came out again for an incident with Issac Chapple and Dakota Jackson, both cars were able to continue on as Jackson was the only car who came to a stop. It looked to be all over as Kyle Cummins came to the white flag off turn four, only to see the yellow flag interrupt the ending of the race due to a stopped car in the middle of turn one and two. The car was Collin Ambrose who would be able to continue and run the one lap shootout to end the race.

It would be a one lap dash for $5,000 to win between Kyle Cummins and Chase Stockon. Stockon did everything he could but it was not enough as Kyle Cummins held on for his fifth win of the season. Finishing on the podium with Cummins was second place finisher Chase Stockon, and third place Kendall Ruble. Stephen Schnapf and Bryan Karraker rounded out the top five for the Hoosier Sprint Nationals.

The 20 lap A-main for the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds rolled out with all 16 cars starting the feature. With Brandon McDowell looking to make it three wins in a row, he knew he would have to work for it from his fourth place starting position. McDowell would lead the opening 18 laps until making contact with a slow car, coming off turn two, coming to the white flag. Stan Beadles kept himself on position all night to capitalize and fire off the low side to get the lead. McDowell would make one more charge coming off turn four to the inside of Beadles. Sparks were flying and the checkers were waving as Stan Beadles were able to hold on to the win at the line.

Damon Fortune and Ethan Barrow would sit on the front row for the IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car 25 lap feature event. The green would drop and Fortune would lead the opening 4 laps before the yellow came out for Patrick Kren and Chris McWilliams. The Delaware double-file restart would lead them to green with 21 to go. Kren would bring out the second yellow on lap 8 ending his night. The yellow would fly again on lap 11 with a four car accident ruining the evening for Bradley Sterrett and AJ Carlson. With 14 to go the big mover had been Justin Clark, moving from seventh to second. With 10 to go Alex Nolan would spin and put him out of the race. The single file restart would set the stage with 10 to go and Damon Fortune the leader, with Andy Bradley and Chase Stockon in tow. With a bobble by Fortune coming off turn four Andy Bradley was able to get by. Another yellow would fly for the 50 of Kevin Chapoux with only four laps to go. Andy Bradley would see the white flag wave, only to see the yellow flag before the checkered flag for the spun car of Damon Fortune. This set up a single lap dash for the win. The green flag dropped, Andy Bradley held the bottom in turns one and two only to go high in three and four. Chase Stockon would throw a beautiful slider going in to three and it stuck flawlessly to win the IMCA Racesaver sprint cars. Andy Bradley would finish second after a strong run all night with Justin Clarke, Anton Hernandez, and Scott Bradley rounding out the top five.

Strong fields always provide starting lineups for each feature that are deep in potential winners.  The first four features held to conclude events last weekend produced four different winners.  Shane Cottle won the opening round at Gas City with a last lap pass.  Tyler Courtney was the last of 4 race leaders in taking the feature at Plymouth Friday.  Defending Indiana Sprint Week Champion Chris Windom was the winner at Kokomo.  Justin Grant led all 30 laps in winning at Lawrenceburg Speedway Sunday night.

Kyle Cummins has won 5 feature events including a stretch of 3 victories in a row.  Nine different drivers have posted runner-up finishes.  There are plenty of front runners to challenge for wins!

The top ten drivers in the current BRANDEIS MSCS Points Standings here at Mid Season are Kyle Cummins, Dakota Jackson, Brady Short, Stephen Schnapf, Aric Gentry, Donny Brackett, Jordan Kinser, Brandon Mattox, Chayse Hayhurst, and Kent Schmidt.  Chayse Hayhurst leads Kyle Hathaway and Ryan Bond in the 2019 MSCS Rookie Standings.

Haubstadt, IN –  July 13, 2019.  Tri-State Speedway presented the 2019 version of the Sprint Stampede Saturday night.  The BRANDEIS Midwest Sprint Car feature was the first of three features held to conclude the evening.  The IMCA Racesaver 305 Sprint Car Series and the Midwest Mini Sprint Association features followed.

The MSCS feature paid $2,500 to win.  Twenty drivers started the 25 lap contest.  It was a competitive race with three drivers battling for top honors.  Kendall Ruble made a very strong run after starting on the pole.  He shot into the lead as the green flag waved!  The Vincennes, IN, driver led lap after lap in a fast three to five car procession.  Kyle Cummins had passed Dakota Jackson and went to work to overtake Ruble.  Stephen Schnapf moved up and was pressuring Cummins for second.  The racing tightened and Cummins took the lead on lap 19.  Ruble finished a strong second,  Schnapf held third at the checkers.  Chase Stockon and Dakota Jackson rounded out the top five.

Kyle Cummins increased his points lead in the BRANDEIS MSCS Standings.  The Princeton, IN, driver also notched his 18th MSCS career feature victory.  The win was the sixth in MSCS competition this season.  It was his third in a row at Tri-State Speedway. Cummins pilots the Rock Steady Racing Marc 1 sprint owned by Hank Byram.  The team effort is sponsored by Debra Corn Foster Care, Tim Mason RE/MAX, and Greenwell Auto Body.

The second five at the finish of the MSCS feature included Kent Schmidt, Brian Karraker, Chet Williams, Garrett Aitken, and Critter Malone.  Kent Schmidt had set the fastest lap of the 25 who qualified with a lap of 13.996 seconds.  Schmidt was the only driver of the 25 that qualified that got around the quarter mile oval in less than 14 seconds.  Brian Karraker had his passing game working as he earned the Certified Rentals Hard Charger Award worth an additional $100. Donny Brackett was eleventh on the field and thus received the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award.

Four drivers made their first appearance of the season with the series.  Of those four, Braxton Cummins was quick enough to make the feature but had the misfortune to have to retire from the race. Flames energing from under his car had to be extinguished once it was taken to the work area.

The three ten lap heat races were victories earned in succession by Kendall Ruble, Dakota Jackson, and Kyle Cummins.  Brady Short won the B Main.  Ironically Short needed to run the B in order to transfer to the A after he flipped while leading the first heat.  A last lap three wide battle overtook lapped traffic and the closure rate created a problem in turns three and four.  James Lyerla and Chayse Hayhurst finished second and third in the B-Main.
__________

The IMCA Racesaver 305 Sprints competed in a 25 lap feature.  Chase Stockon of Fort Branch, IN, picked up the win.  He competed in both the wing and non-wing sprints during the evening.  Andy Bradley made a late race pass on Kendall Ruble to claim second place honors. Ruble, who also raced wing and non-wing cars, crossed the line in third.  However he failed to stop at the tech area after the main and went to his pit.  Thus he was disqualified and placed 20th in the finishing order.  Oliver Wayne, Scott Bradley, and Alfred Galedrige rounded out the top five.

Two of the three IMCA Racesaver heat winners encountered problems completing the feature.  They were Anton Hernandez and Rod Henning. First heat winner Jeffery Wimmenauer faired better in finishing 6th in the feature.  The Racesaver Sprints will return to Tri-State Speedway to race on August 10th.
__________

In Midwest Mini Sprint competition Brad Strunk won the 20 lap main event.  Cody Trammel finished second.  Rod Henning took third spot followed by Cindy Chambers and Brandon Coffey.  Coffey had also won the B Main.  Strunk, Trammel, and Henning won the 3 heat races.
__________

The MSCS Sprint Car Series will be idle until August.  The series will then compete in the 15th annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway followed by a second 2019 visit to the Terre Haute Action Track.  These two races are on Saturday and Sunday August 10th & 11th.

Tri-State Speedway will host the finale of USAC Indiana Sprint Week next.  That race will be held on Saturday July 27th.  The UMP Modifieds will be in action also.
