Tri-State Speedway Honored

Posted February 4, 2014

Haubstadt, IN - Jan. 31, 2014.  Tri-State Speedway was recently
honored by being named as the United Midwestern Promoters DIRTcar
Track of the Year for 2013.  The award was presented on January 11th
at that organization's annual "Night of Champions" awards banquet
which was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel's ballroom at Springfield,

This award was one of six special awards determined by a vote of the
UMP DIRTcar membership.  The six foot tall trophy was presented to
Tom and Loris Helfrich who operate and promote the speedway, which is
located at Haubstadt, IN.  They were in attendance along with some
900 other UMP supporters and guests.

In accepting the award on behalf of the speedway, Tom Helfrich was
genuinely surprised and appreciative.  "There are a lot of other
tracks who deserve this award more than us."  With the occasion also
marking the 30th anniversary of UMP, Helfrich recalled those early
formative years when Bob Memmer was starting UMP.  Tom Helfrich was
also honored by UMP back in 1987 as the Promoter of the Year!

Tri-State Speedway offers the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds regularly as
part of their special promotions schedule and has continued to be a
part of the UMP Late Model Summer Nationals each season.  In UMP
National Points for 2013, the Late Model Champion was Brandon
Sheppard and the Modified Champion was Devin Gilpin.  Both of these
drivers were honored at the banquet along with champions and top
drivers in six other divisions.  In all over $350,000 in points fund
awards were distributed.

Both drivers were among the many talented drivers that competed at
Tri-State Speedway last season.  Devin Gilpin won the Summit Modified
Nationals race at the track on June 8th and Sheppard finished fourth
at the Late Model Summer Nationals event in July.  Sheppard
continued on with the tour to become the overall 2013 Summer
Nationals Champion.

The 2014 Summit Modified Nationals will be held at Tri-State Speedway
on Saturday June 7th.  The UMP Summer Nationals for the late models
will be held on Sunday July 6th.  The ALMS Late Models will race
later in the season on September 27th.  That series also operates
under UMP sanction.  In addition the Pro Late Models will make a
visit to the track again in 2014.  They will share in the June 7th
program with the modifieds.
