Tri-State Speedway News & Publicity

Haubstadt, IN - July 3, 2013 - It happens just once a year.  The UMP
Dirt Car Late Model Summernationals tour makes an annual stop at
Tri-State Speedway.  Late Model fans know they are in for the
ultimate in late model dirt track racing when this series blasts into

The series is ever challenging and only the toughest drivers can hope to withstand the daily grind.  Two well known racers, Nascar Nationwide driver Austin Dillon and Nationwide driver Kenny Wallace will be in attendance.

Dillon will power his Team Dillon #3 car in the late model division. Wallace has been following the Summit Modified National Tour in his #36 dirt modified. Besides the constant travel, there is
the need for on-the-road prep and repairs to the race cars.  The
speedways encountered have little resemblance to one another, and new
challengers with fresh cars are waiting all along the way.

The heat of summer and changing weather conditions play an added role
as the teams prepare for the task ahead night after night over a six
week period.  Over the years this series of races has grown from six
to more than thirty events.  Along the way the popular summer series
gained a reputation for overcoming the elements and providing the
hottest competition until it became known as the Hell Tour!

The event Sunday evening at Tri-State speedway will be the 21st race
on this year's UMP Summernationals schedule.  The feature will pay
$5,000 to win.  Last year's event was one of the most exciting in
recent years and was decided on the last lap with Scott Weber the

As of midweek of the fourth week of racing, Illinois drivers have
dominated the winner's circle.  Brandon Sheppard and Shannon Babb
were the only two drivers with multiple wins.  Sheppard has been
leading the standings and is looking to earn a first Summernationals
Title in 2013.  Babb won his third title in 2011.  Brian Shirley was
last year's UMP Summernationals Champion.

Over the years at least 17 Summernational late model events have been
held at Tri-State Speedway.  The most successful drivers to date have
been Shannon Babb with three victories and Don O'Neal and Rodney
Melvin with two wins each on the Haubstadt oval.

The UMP series will be racing at Highland Speedway in Highland, IL,
Saturday night before taking I-64 East to Haubstadt for Sunday's race.
The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be competing on the split card
Sunday night.  The top prize for the modified drivers is $1,000.  The
race is a leg of the 2013 Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals.
    Racing begins at 7:30 P.M. C.D.T.
